View of a slate sculpture by Stephen Kettle at the exhibition, 'Inside the Spitfire: Personal stories of Britain's most famous plane' at the Science Museum, London. Reginald Joseph Mitchell (1895-1937) trained as an engineer and worked as chief designer of the Supermarine Company during World War I. He then turned his hand to aeronautical engineering, developing the design of the famous Spitfire fighter plane used in World War II.
